Le sang du pauvre

Léon Bloy

Language: French

Published: Nov 14, 1983

Description:

Contains four texts by the Catholic author Bloy, most importantly "Le salut par les Juifs" (p. 19-106), written in 1892 in response to Drumont, and "Le sang du pauvre" (p. 107-229), written in 1909. Bloy firmly condemns antisemitism as an offront to Jesus, who was himself a Jew, and ascribes a decisive role to the Jews in the scheme of redemption. Like Marx, Bloy deifies money, which he claims is the "blood of the poor", i.e. of Christ. In refusing Christ, the Jews were left with money as their share, money being the visible face of God. According to Bloy the Jews carry the cross of Christ and will convert their money into passion at the end of days.
